DUSTIN YANDELL'S HORRIFIC CRIME IN NEWMARKET AND GEORGIA REVEALED

Dustin Yandell, a former serviceman of the United States Air Force, committed a brutal act of animal cruelty that shocked the community and drew widespread condemnation.

Born on October 13, 1984, Yandell was initially residing at Mill Reef Close in Newmarket, Suffolk, at the time of the incident.

As of November 2019, he was living in Edison, Georgia, USA, where he was employed as a technician with Southern Plastics, according to his social media profile.

Yandell’s heinous act involved the killing of his beloved golden retriever, named Goldie.

The incident took place in March 2005 at his home in Mill Reef Close, Newmarket.

According to reports, he placed the dog in a bathtub before proceeding to slash its throat with a military knife, causing the animal immense suffering.

The attack was described as premeditated and wanton cruelty, with Yandell allegedly sitting with the dog for a moment before executing the act.

RSPCA Chief Inspector Mark Thompson described the case as one of the worst instances of animal abuse he had encountered.

He stated, “This was a very, very serious act of premeditated, wanton cruelty.

Mr.

Yandell knew what he was going to do.

He took the dog upstairs on a lead, put it into the bath, sat with it for a moment, and then slashed its throat.

The animal’s suffering would have been untold in the few minutes while it was dying.” Yandell, who served as a combat medic during the Iraq war, initially denied involvement in the killing.

However, he later admitted to the police that he had killed Goldie at his residence in Newmarket.

During a police interview, he stated, “I do not know what was going through my mind at the time.

I put the knife in the dog’s throat, and it went from right to left.

The next thing I remember was cleaning the bath and putting the dog in the trash bin.” The discovery of the dog’s body was made by a refuse collector from Forest Heath District Council, who was visibly distressed by the gruesome sight.

The bin containing Goldie was found to have been the site of the tragic event, leaving a lasting impact on those who uncovered it.

Yandell’s motives for the killing appeared to be linked to personal distress.

He admitted that the act might have been an attempt to retaliate against his wife, who had called him from America to inform him she would not be returning home and that he would not see their son again.

During the court proceedings, Yandell’s defense solicitor, Jeremy Kendall, highlighted that his client had endured significant trauma, including the stillbirth of his second child in April of the previous year.

Kendall described the incident as a “one-off offence” committed by a young man who had suddenly acted out of character.

It was also noted that Yandell would likely face discharge from the United States Air Force as a consequence of his conviction.

The court considered the severity of the crime, which involved causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, and determined that no lesser sentence would be appropriate.

Chairman of the bench, Colin Reeve, emphasized the gravity of the case, stating, “We are dealing with one very serious matter of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

We consider this matter so serious that no other sentencing is appropriate.” Yandell was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison and was banned from keeping animals for life.

The case drew significant media attention and served as a stark reminder of the importance of animal welfare and the consequences of cruelty.

In January 2007, Yandell was officially discharged from the US Air Force.

Despite his troubled past, he appears to have moved on to life in Georgia, where he is employed and reportedly owns at least one dog.
