2013: DOCTOR WHO RAPED 11-YEAR-OLD GIRL JAILED FOR 18 YEARS
A general practitioner from Bolton has received an 18-year prison sentence after being convicted of raping an 11-year-old girl.Dr.
Stephen Hamilton was found guilty today after a four-week trial held at Manchester Crown Court.
The jury, composed of six men and six women, convicted Hamilton on three counts of child cruelty, six counts of rape, and three counts of sexual assault—all charges he had previously denied.
Additionally, he was convicted yesterday of another child cruelty count.
Earlier in the proceedings, Hamilton, aged 45 and residing on Gaskell Road in Altrincham, was found not guilty of administering a harmful substance to the girl on the judge’s instructions.
The prosecution accused Hamilton of raping the girl, who cannot be identified due to legal restrictions, over 40 times.
Throughout the trial, it was revealed that Hamilton allegedly strangled the girl until she lost consciousness during abuse, called her degrading names, and blamed her for the misconduct.
The court learned that he exerted control over her, threatening to prove she was mentally ill and fabricating stories if she told anyone about the abuse.
However, in 2011, the girl felt she could no longer endure the situation and decided to seek justice, going to the police.
Hamilton denied the allegations, claiming the girl fabricated the abuse and made false accusations.
Witnesses supporting Hamilton described him as a caring general practitioner, with him appearing tearful at times during the trial.
