NEWCASTLE COUNCILLOR ADMITS TO STALKING WOMAN FOR MONTHS
A Newcastle councillor, Dipu Ahad, who served the Elswick ward from 2007 until last year, has admitted to stalking a woman over a period of five months.The offence took place between January and May 2019.
The 40-year-old, residing on Ilfracombe Avenue, pleaded guilty during his appearance at Newcastle's crown court.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on 19 April and has been granted conditional bail until that date.
The court was informed that the woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, experienced "serious distress" as a result of his actions.
Following his charge, Ahad was suspended by the Labour Party but retained his council seat as an independent until May of last year, when he forfeited it after missing six months of meetings.
