DOLLIS HILL COUPLE AND HIGH RANKING MET OFFICER SENTENCED FOR POSSESSING CHILD ABUSE VIDEO
Superintendent Novlett Robyn Williams, aged 54, known for her commendable work following the Grenfell Tower incident, faces potential career termination after her conviction for possessing an indecent video of a child was confirmed during a two-week trial at the Old Bailey earlier this month.Williams, a resident of south London, claimed she never saw the video, which was sent to her via WhatsApp by her sister, Jennifer Hodge, on February 3, 2018.
She was among 17 recipients of the video, which her sister had received from her partner, Dido Massivi.
Prosecutors argued that Williams could not have missed the 54-second clip, referencing a message from her to her sister asking “please call” as evidence that she intended to discuss the video.
She also faced a second charge of neglecting to report the video and misusing police authority, but jurors found her not guilty of this allegation.
Hodge, a 56-year-old social worker living on Deacon Road, was convicted of distributing a child indecency image and received a sentence of 100 hours of community service.
Her partner, Massivi, a bus driver, was convicted of two counts of distributing an indecent image of a child as well as possessing an extreme sexual content image involving a horse.
He was sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for two years, with an additional 200 hours of community service.
The sentences were pronounced earlier today by Judge Richard Marks QC.
Deputy assistant commissioner Matthew Horne noted that the prosecution characterized the case as “sad” and acknowledged serious mistakes made during judgment.
He highlighted Williams's notable career in policing and previous recognition for her professionalism.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct is currently conducting an independent misconduct investigation into Williams’s conduct, and she remains on restricted duties until the process is complete.
