BOURNEMOUTH MAN SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL OFFENCES
A man named Derek Paul Wilkinson, aged 26 and residing on Keeble Crescent, Bournemouth, has been convicted of rape and a serious sexual offence.
Following a trial at Bournemouth Crown Court, Wilkinson was found guilty in August by a jury.
Judge Roger Jarvis described Wilkinson as "a very dangerous person" due to the nature of his crimes.
Subsequently, Wilkinson received a five-year prison sentence at Dorchester Crown Court.
During the sentencing, Judge Jarvis emphasized the threat Wilkinson poses, stating, "You are clearly a very dangerous person.
You will be imprisoned for public protection." The judge also highlighted that new legal measures allowed victims' previous incidents to be presented to the jury, providing a clearer picture of Wilkinson's behavior.
Wilkinson was informed that he would be on the sex offenders register for life, and his case will be reviewed after five years.
The court noted he had already spent 224 days in custody pending his trial and sentencing, a period that will be deducted from his sentence.
Additionally, the police official DC Helen Godwin stated that the sentence was "definitely proportionate to his offences" and that it brought justice for the victims, describing the experience as "traumatic and harrowing" for them.
