BLACKBURN MAN SENTENCED FOR KNIFE ATTACK DRIVEN BY JEALOUSY
JEALOUSY drove a Blackburn man to pick up a knife when he saw his former partner having drinks with two other men, a court was told.He put a knife to one victim and the man suffered an inch-long gash as he put a hand up to try and protect himself.
His attacker, Dennis Leatherd, appeared for sentence at Preston Crown Court on a wounding charge.
The 33-year-old, of Lytham Road, Blackburn, had pleaded guilty to the offence in Fox House Street.
He was sentenced to a 12-month community rehabilitation order, with an order to pay £100 compensation.
Miss Zabeda Maqsood, prosecuting, said the defendant was in the front room of the address when Mark Ince called to have a drink with two other men.
One of the others was Leatherd's former partner.
The defendant appeared to be very angry and was pacing up and down.
Mr Ince went on to feel his head pulled backwards as he was grabbed by Leatherd who put a knife against his neck.
When arrested, the defendant explained he had been jealous and lost his temper when the two men were at the house.
He said his intention had been merely to scare Mr Ince and had not wanted to hurt anyone.
Mr Richard Hunt, defending, said at the time Leatherd and his former partner had still been sharing a house.
He had reacted in a jealous way to friends coming to the home.
