ATTACKER JAILED FOR ATTEMPTING TO RAPE WOMAN IN HER HOME
A MAN has been jailed for 11 years after he attempted to rape a woman in the early hours when she was returning to her home in Bournemouth.The victim, who recorded 27 minutes of the sickening Charminster incident on her mobile phone, told her attacker "no" 141 times and "get out of my house" 183 times.
Deividas Zilinskas, of Coleman Road, Bournemouth, pleaded guilty to attempted rape, attempted assault by penetration and three counts of sexual assault at a hearing on October 28 at Portsmouth Crown Court.
Zilinskas, 23, approached the woman, who was unknown to him, in the middle of the night in July and he started walking with her.
The woman, aged in her 20s, felt uncomfortable and tried to get away from him by hiding in a garden, but when she continued on her way again, Zilinskas jumped out from a hiding position and continued to walk with her.
When the woman reached her home, Zilinskas forced his way through the front door and sexually assaulted her, making her endure a horrendous ordeal, before she was able to break free from him, pushed him out of her house and called the police.
Rachel Robertson, CPS Wessex District Crown Prosecutor, said: “The victim in this case bravely managed to record 27 minutes of the attack on her mobile phone, in which she could clearly be heard saying “No” to Zilinskas 141 times, and “get out of my house” no less than 183 times.
The CPS worked closely with Dorset Police to build a strong case against Zilinskas using this recording as evidence, as well as the victim’s brave testimony, DNA evidence and CCTV to prove that he attacked her, with no doubt that it was completely against her will.
“Thankfully, attacks by strangers are rare, but perpetrators should know that the CPS is committed to ensuring justice is delivered in all cases where there is sufficient evidence to prosecute.” As well as serving a term of imprisonment, Zilinskas was made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will remain on the Sex Offenders' Register for life at sentencing hearing at Portsmouth Crown Court on December 10.
