DECLAN WILSON FROM CAMBORNE SENTENCED AFTER BREACHING COURT ORDER BY CARRYING DRUNK 14-YEAR-OLD TO BED
In a recent court hearing at Truro Crown Court, Declan Wilson, aged 25 and known to have no fixed address, faced serious allegations related to a breach of a court-mandated sexual harm prevention order. The incident took place in Camborne, where Wilson was found to have violated the strict conditions set by the court, which prohibited him from having any form of contact—direct or indirect—with minors. The case came to light after Wilson was observed at a property in Camborne on May 15 of this year. He had initially planned to visit a 17-year-old girl, believing she was alone at her residence. Wilson had met her earlier at an Aldi supermarket, where he was informed of her age. Despite this knowledge, he chose to proceed to her home, bringing alcohol with him. The girl was accompanied by her 14-year-old cousin at the time.
According to the prosecution, Wilson’s actions that evening escalated when the 14-year-old girl, who was heavily intoxicated, was carried upstairs by Wilson and placed in bed. It is important to note that the two were never left alone together, and there was no evidence of any further inappropriate conduct. Nonetheless, the incident was reported to the police, leading to Wilson’s arrest and subsequent court proceedings.
Prosecutor Zoe Kuyken outlined the background of Wilson’s criminal history, revealing that in 2016, he was convicted of two counts of raping a child under the age of 13. For these offenses, he received a sentence of five years in a young offenders’ institution. However, Wilson was released well before completing the full term. The following year, he was convicted again for engaging in sexual activity with a female under 16, resulting in a 16-month prison sentence. It was during this period that the sexual harm prevention order was imposed, which he later breached.
During the sentencing, Judge Robert Linford expressed his concerns about Wilson’s actions. He stated, “On May 16 of this year, you ended up in a house where there was a 14-year-old girl. You were told she was 14 on the way but nevertheless went there. She was drunk and you knew that but saw fit to carry her upstairs and to bed.” The judge emphasized that this was a deliberate breach of the court’s order and highlighted the seriousness of Wilson’s criminal background, describing the event as “extremely worrying.”
Judge Linford concluded that Wilson’s conduct warranted a custodial sentence, and he was sentenced to 16 months in prison for his actions. The court’s decision underscores the importance of adhering to court orders designed to protect vulnerable minors and reflects the ongoing concern over Wilson’s repeated violations and criminal history in Camborne and beyond.
