BIRMINGHAM MUM NEGLECTED PRESA CANARIO DOG CALLED SHADOW AND HER PUG ROXY
Debbie Ayub, a woman from Birmingham, was found to have neglected her Presa Canario dog, named Shadow, due to her fear of the animal. On February 20, the RSPCA visited her home and found Shadow confined in a poor condition within a makeshift dog run that lacked bedding.
During the same inspection, it was also discovered that her pug, Roxy, was suffering from a vaginal prolapse that had lasted for 19 months.
Ayub admitted that she had contacted the PDSA regarding Roxy but denied that she was advised to have her spayed.
In an interview, she explained that she avoided cleaning Shadow’s dog run because she was afraid of the dog and claimed that she was unaware of a tail injury that the dog had.
The court heard that Shadow had been lame for about three to four weeks and had a tail injury at the time of the RSPCA’s visit.
The 45-year-old from Kingsland Road faced charges of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.
She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to an 18-month community order with an intensive supervision scheme, encompassing 15 days of rehabilitation activities and 12 mental health sessions.
Additionally, she was prohibited from owning animals for a decade and ordered to pay £100 in legal costs.
Throughout the court proceedings, she was described as having no prior convictions and as being fully cooperative with authorities.
The judge noted a history of domestic violence that was linked to her personal circumstances, which influenced the sentencing decision.
