MAN ADMITS PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND ATTACK
A THUG has pleaded guilty to attacking his pregnant girlfriend.Warrington Magistrates Court heard on Thursday how St Helens resident Dean Grundy assaulted Charlene Hampson on January 19.
She was three months pregnant with the defendant’s child.
The court heard how Grundy had picked up the victim from her home address in Padgate to take her to a hospital appointment.
An argument ensued which quickly turned violent.
Prosecuting, Sonia Bellerby said: “There was an altercation.
The defendant was tense and aggressive.
“He threw a lit cigarette at Ms Hampson, smacked her twice in the face and continued to shout verbal abuse.” The attack continued outside Brook Acre Primary School when Grundy attempted to push his pregnant girlfriend out of the car.
The court heard he punched her again causing a cut to her lip, before hitting her in the face with his cap and slamming her head into the passenger window.
Grundy, who has previous convictions for assault and criminal damage, then drove the victim back to her house and she called the police.
The court also heard that Grundy had assaulted his partner on other occasions during their three-year relationship, but she had either not reported the incidents or had withdrawn statements.
Magistrates told the defendant to take the court hearing seriously after he appeared to smirk when details of the offences were read out.
After the attack he also sent a sarcastic text message to the victim stating that going to prison did not worry him.
He pleaded guilty to one count of criminal damage, referring to an incident on January 11 when he punched a door at the home of Ms Hampson, and one of common assault.
Magistrates warned Grundy that he could face custody and adjourned proceedings for reports to be completed.
The defendant was granted conditional bail but cannot contact Ms Hampson.
