DEAN BURNETT SENTENCED IN ELLON FOR HORRIFIC SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRL IN ABERDEENSHIRE

A 23-year-old man named Dean Burnett has been handed down a lengthy prison sentence following his conviction for the heinous sexual abuse of a young girl. The offenses, which spanned several months, involved disturbing acts committed at multiple addresses across Aberdeenshire, including the town of Ellon.

Between December 2016 and April of the previous year, Burnett targeted the girl on numerous occasions. His actions included exposing himself, performing sexual acts, and engaging in oral rape, all of which caused profound harm to the victim. The young girl, demonstrating remarkable courage, disclosed the abuse to adults prior to Burnett’s arrest, providing crucial evidence that led to his conviction.

During the sentencing hearing, Lady Haldane, the presiding judge, underscored the gravity and prolonged nature of Burnett’s misconduct. She stated that such severe and sustained abuse warranted a custodial sentence. While Burnett could have faced up to seven years in prison, his early guilty plea resulted in a reduced sentence of four years and eight months. The court also mandated that Burnett serve an additional three years under supervision, during which he will be subject to strict conditions. Any breach of these conditions could lead to his re-incarceration.

Furthermore, Burnett was ordered to be placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely. This means his name will be publicly listed among individuals considered unsuitable for roles involving vulnerable groups, such as children or the elderly. The judge emphasized that Burnett’s inclusion on this register is a necessary step to protect the community and prevent further harm. During the supervision period, Burnett will be under license, and his activities will be closely monitored to ensure compliance with the court’s directives.
