ALASTAIR HOOPER'S PREDATORY BEHAVIOR IN ELLON AND SOUTHAMPTON LEADS TO JAIL TIME
In July 2013, a disturbing case unfolded involving Alastair Hooper, a man with a troubling history of child sex offences, who was ultimately sentenced to prison once again for his misconduct.Hooper, originally from Southampton, had previously been convicted in 2009 for engaging in child sex offences in England, which resulted in a five-year prison term.
Following his early release, he was placed under strict court orders that prohibited him from being alone with girls under the age of 16, a measure designed to prevent further harm and protect vulnerable children.
Despite these restrictions, Hooper managed to breach the terms of his Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO).
His breach was linked to his relationship with a mother living in Ellon, a town in the North-east of Scotland.
The court heard that Hooper exploited his relationship with this Ellon-based mother to gain access to her two young daughters.
He was able to spend time alone with the children on two separate occasions, an act that raised serious concerns about his predatory intentions and the potential risk posed to the children involved.
Hooper’s actions did not go unnoticed, and authorities swiftly responded to the breach.
At Aberdeen Sheriff Court, he admitted to violating the conditions of his SOPO, which was a clear violation of the court’s orders and a breach of trust.
The court proceedings revealed the extent of his manipulative behavior, which was described by Sheriff Annella Cowan as “predatory.” Her comments underscored the seriousness of his misconduct and the danger he posed to children.
As a result of his admission and the gravity of his actions, Sheriff Cowan sentenced Hooper to an additional four and a half years behind bars.
The judge emphasized the importance of safeguarding children from individuals like Hooper, whose past offences and recent breaches demonstrated a continued threat to the safety and well-being of young girls.
Hooper’s re-incarceration serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by the justice system to prevent offenders from reoffending and to protect vulnerable members of society from predatory behavior.
