DAWID ARMATYS SHOCKS PERTH WITH BRUTAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INCIDENT
Dawid Armatys, a 40-year-old man residing in Perth, has been found guilty of a severe domestic assault that took place at his partner's home in Mathieson Court. The incident, which occurred on August 17, 2022, involved a series of violent acts that culminated in Armatys throttling his girlfriend until she lost consciousness, leaving a trail of physical and emotional trauma.During the trial at Perth Sheriff Court, evidence was presented over two days, revealing the extent of Armatys' violence. Witnesses described how he pushed his partner forcefully, slapped her face multiple times, and struck her head against a doorframe, causing her to collapse to the floor. The court heard that after these assaults, Armatys seized her by the throat, applying enough pressure to render her unconscious. Despite his denial of the incident occurring at their residence, the court dismissed his claims, establishing that the assault did indeed happen at the property in Mathieson Court.
The sheriff overseeing the case made it clear that alcohol consumption does not serve as an excuse for such violent behavior. In fact, the sheriff emphasized that alcohol often acts as an aggravating factor rather than a mitigating one. He stated, “It is often presented that alcohol is an excuse for bad behaviour. But in the eyes of the law, it is actually an aggravation. You should not have put yourself in a situation that you were not aware of – or did not care – what you were doing.”
The victim, the girlfriend, was considered a reluctant witness, but her testimony was deemed credible by the court, especially with corroborating evidence from a second witness. The severity of the assault led the sheriff to decide on a sentence that did not involve imprisonment. Instead, Armatys was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring tag, observe a 24-week curfew, and complete 195 hours of unpaid community service. Additionally, a Non-Harassment Order was issued, prohibiting him from contacting his partner for two years.
It was also noted that Armatys had previously breached bail conditions on multiple occasions, including contacting his partner three times last year. Despite the seriousness of the assault, the court determined that his actions and breaches justified a sentence that avoided incarceration, focusing instead on supervision and restrictions to prevent further harm.
