77-YEAR-OLD MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR DECADES-LONG CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
After a detailed investigation conducted by Thames Valley Police, a man named David Tilley, aged 77, residing on Van Diemans in Stanford in the Vale, has been convicted in a court trial spanning eight days at Oxford Crown Court. He was found guilty of 11 counts of indecent assault and one count of indecency with a child in Abingdon. Following the verdict, Tilley was sentenced to eight years in prison. The crimes took place over the 1970s and 1980s, during which he sexually abused four young girls on multiple occasions. The offences were reported in April 2022, after which Tilley was interviewed twice by officers. Throughout the investigation, he consistently denied the allegations and maintained his innocence during the court proceedings. However, the jury unanimously convicted him of all charges, indicating clear evidence against him. Detective Constable Chloe Thompson from Abingdon CID expressed her relief that justice has been served, stating: “I am pleased that Tilley has finally been brought to justice for the many years of offending he conducted against young girls in the 1970s and 1980s. He has never shown any remorse and even attempted to victim blame during the trial. I am proud of the bravery shown by his victims, who came forward and shared their stories. Our commitment to combat child sexual abuse remains unwavering, and this sentence underscores our dedication to protecting children and pursuing offenders.”
