ABINGDON MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT ATTACKS ON EX-GIRLFRIEND AND DAUGHTER
A man identified as David Ebsworth, aged 41, of Tower Close in Abingdon, has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple violent and abusive offences.
The court heard that Ebsworth committed a series of disturbing acts in 2024, including strangulation, assault by beating, actual bodily harm, and common assault.
These incidents involved his ex-girlfriend, with whom he has four children, and occurred during episodes in May and November of that year.
During the May 31 incident, Ebsworth was intoxicated and assaulted his ex-girlfriend and their daughter, with the latter capturing footage of the assault which was later shown in court.
Additionally, in November, he threatened his ex-girlfriend with a kitchen knife, holding it to her throat and issuing threats to kill her if he discovered she was unfaithful.
The offences resulted in Ebsworth being sentenced by Judge Nigel Daly at Oxford Crown Court on June 27, 2025.
He received 24 months for the strangulation, 2 months for assault by beating, 6 months for actual bodily harm, and 2 months for common assault, with some sentences running consecutively.
He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £228 and a restraining order was put in place.
The court was emotionally charged; Ebsworth’s ex-girlfriend sobbed loudly, describing her trauma and the abusive dynamics of their relationship.
The judge condemned his actions, stating, "This was what you did to a woman who thought of you as the love of her life.
I'm told that you are changing in prison, but I have got to deal with this behaviour, which was utterly disgraceful." Ebsworth was seen winking at his ex-girlfriend as he was taken away, reflecting the ongoing turmoil and seriousness of his offending.
