2007: TEENAGER JAILED FOR KILLING BROTHER IN DRINK-FUELLED FIGHT
2007: A teenager convicted of fatally stabbing his brother after a drunken dispute has received a five-year prison sentence.David Street, 18 years old from Townfields Close in Bury, admitted to a charge of manslaughter when he appeared in court.
The incident involved him stabbing his 21-year-old sibling, Michael, in the stomach during an argument at their home on January 12.
On Thursday, the Manchester Crown Court sentenced him to five years behind bars.
Detective Inspector Bill Beddows, who led the investigation, commented: "Michael and David’s relationship was often troubled, but that night David’s response to a family disagreement crossed the line." He emphasized that while David may not have intended to kill, knives are inherently dangerous weapons, and this case underscores their lethal potential when used improperly.
On the night of the incident, Michael had been drinking at a friend’s house and returned home around 11:30 pm.
David, also intoxicated, arrived shortly after, accompanied by his girlfriend.
The brothers then started arguing, which escalated into a physical altercation, with David punching Michael.
The fight extended into the street, where friends of the brothers attempted to separate them.
During the confrontation, David headbutted one of the friends.
After a brief calm, they returned indoors and continued exchanging insults, with the situation worsening once more.
In the heat of the moment, David stabbed Michael in the stomach above his navel.
Michael staggered and collapsed; he was taken to Fairfield Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
David was apprehended at the scene and charged with murder three days later.
He later pleaded guilty to manslaughter during his court hearing on June 8.
