WIRRAL MAN JAILED FOR KILLING WIFE WHILE SHE SLEPT
A man identified as David Sadler, who has four children, was sentenced to seven years in prison after he choked his wife Jill to death while she was sleeping. The incident took place after Sadler, who had been drinking about ten pints of lager, developed an obsession that his wife played a role in hastening their daughter’s death, who was terminally ill.
According to the proceedings at Liverpool Crown Court, Sadler returned home from a night out and suddenly lost control, attacking his wife at their house on Wastdale Drive in Moreton during February.
The assault caused her to sustain fifty injuries involving her head, face, neck, and abdomen, and it was characterized as a sustained attack.
Although he was cleared of murder charges by a jury, Sadler admitted to manslaughter.
The court learned that his violent behavior was fueled by deep-seated resentment towards his wife over her involvement in their child's suffering and passing.
Judge Andrew Menary QC commented, ‘In intoxication, you assaulted her while she was alone, in bed, and completely defenseless.’ The police described the scene as 'truly horrific,' and the sentencing aimed to provide some closure for the family and friends of Mrs Sadler.
