CARNAGE IN MORETON: CARL GALLIMORE BEATS ELDERLY DOG IN FIT OF RAGE

In a disturbing incident that shocked the community of Moreton, Carl Gallimore, born on April 3, 1985, and residing on School Close in Wirral, was caught on CCTV brutally assaulting his elderly Staffordshire bull terrier, named Kiya, in a public street. The assault took place on October 5, 2016, and was witnessed by numerous passersby who were appalled by the cruelty displayed.

According to court records, Gallimore, who had been drinking alcohol prior to the attack, was seen physically abusing Kiya on a busy street corner. The footage captured by two different CCTV cameras shows Gallimore repeatedly punching the 12-year-old dog in the back of the head, an act of punishment after she slipped her lead. The video evidence reveals a disturbing scene where Gallimore first struck Kiya, causing her to fall to the ground, then knelt on her and continued the assault with punches.

Witnesses reported that Gallimore, visibly intoxicated, continued to beat Kiya even after she was on the ground, despite pleas from members of the public urging him to stop. The footage further shows Gallimore walking away from the scene with Kiya and another dog, Kane, but then turning back to strike Kiya again as they moved along the street. The public's distress was palpable, with many shouting and begging him to cease his violent actions.

Inspector Anthony Joynes of the RSPCA described the scene as deeply upsetting, noting that Kiya appeared terrified throughout the ordeal. He explained that the attack was triggered when Kiya, who had slipped her lead, ran towards a guide dog, prompting Gallimore’s violent response. The inspector stated, “Gallimore attacked Kiya in a fit of anger, because she had slipped out of her lead and ran towards a guide dog. When I interviewed him, he admitted he hit her and that he did so too hard, and that he had drunk at least four cans of alcohol before the incident.”

The investigation by the RSPCA and police led to a warrant being executed at Gallimore’s residence the following week. During the search, both Kiya and Kane were removed from his care. A veterinary examination of Kiya revealed that, fortunately, she did not sustain any lasting injuries from the assault. However, the emotional trauma inflicted was evident, and the incident highlighted the dangers of alcohol-fueled violence towards animals.

Inspector Joynes emphasized the cruelty of the act, stating, “There is never an excuse to treat an animal in this way. CCTV footage clearly shows Gallimore raining punches on Kiya in an incident which would have caused her pain as well as leaving her terrified. Kiya was very lucky that she did not suffer any serious injuries as a result of the attack.” He further noted that despite the brutal beating, Kiya refused to defend herself, demonstrating her trust in her owner and her vulnerability.

Gallimore’s actions drew widespread condemnation, and he was subsequently prosecuted. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to a 12-month community order. Additionally, he was ordered to pay a total of £480 in fines and costs. His license to keep dogs was revoked for 12 months, a ban that expired in October 2018. Both Kiya and Kane were placed in the care of the RSPCA, ensuring their safety and well-being after the traumatic incident.
