MAN JAILED FOR 'HORRIFIC CAMPAIGN OF HARASSMENT' OF COUNTY DURHAM EX-PARTNER
A previously jailed domestic bully put a recent ex-partner through a "horrific campaign of harassment" after she ended their relationship.
Durham Crown Court heard it was a "short and turbulent" relationship initiated over Facebook, involving staying at her home in Catterick, North Yorkshire, and visits to him in Glasgow.
The relationship deteriorated due to his drunken behaviour, leading her to put him on a train from Darlington to Glasgow.
Despite her attempts to distance herself, he bombarded her with phone calls and messages, and even slept in her garden shed.
He later contacted her from Darlington Memorial Hospital, then absconded.
He returned to Glasgow and breached court conditions 11 times, then was arrested in Newton Aycliffe.
She stated her life was ruined, suffering panic attacks, mental health issues, and thoughts of self-harm.
Newlands, of Collina Quadrant, Maryhill, Glasgow, admitted stalking on May 30, and was sentenced to 31 months in prison with a lifetime restraining order.
He previously served a 20-month sentence for assaulting a former partner in Glasgow in 2020.
