DAVID MACKAY FROM BISHOP KINKELL CAUGHT IN INVERNESS HOTEL VOYEURISM SCANDAL
In a case that has shocked the local community of Inverness and its surrounding areas, 25-year-old David Mackay, a resident of Bishop Kinkell near Conon Bridge, was involved in a disturbing incident at a hotel in Inverness. The incident came to light when police discovered a hidden camera placed inside a cubicle of a male toilet at the Craigmonie Hotel in Inverness, which Mackay had used to secretly record individuals using the facilities. On Thursday, Mackay appeared before Inverness Sheriff Court to face charges related to his actions. The court was informed that Mackay had deliberately installed a recording device with the intent to commit voyeurism, a serious offense that infringes on personal privacy and dignity. The device was found during a police investigation that was initiated after the matter was reported on April 5, 2019.
During the court proceedings, Mackay pleaded guilty to the charges of placing a recording device with the intention to commit voyeurism, as well as the act of voyeurism itself. When questioned by police, he did not deny his involvement but instead made full admissions regarding his actions, which further underscored the gravity of the offense.
The court had previously deferred sentencing to allow for a comprehensive background report to be prepared. Sheriff Gary Aitken, presiding over the case, emphasized that Mackay was very close to being sent to custody, indicating the seriousness with which the court viewed the offense. However, instead of imprisonment, the sheriff imposed a series of strict conditions and restrictions on Mackay.
As part of his sentence, Mackay will be subject to social work supervision for a period of two years. Additionally, he has been placed on the sex offender’s register for the same duration, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. The court also mandated that Mackay participate in a rehabilitation program aimed at addressing his behavior and preventing future offenses.
Further restrictions include requiring Mackay to obtain approval from his supervising officer for any future employment, especially jobs that involve internet-enabled or image-capturing devices. He is also mandated to allow police to monitor any such devices he may possess and to have them checked regularly. These measures are intended to prevent any recurrence of similar offenses and to safeguard the privacy of others in the community.
Inverness Sheriff Court’s decision reflects the serious stance taken against voyeurism and related offenses, emphasizing both punishment and rehabilitation. The case has garnered significant attention in the local area, highlighting the importance of privacy and the consequences of violating personal boundaries in such a manner.
