EAST LONDON MAN SENTENCED FOR LIFE IN GRUESOME EX-PARTNER MURDER
A man named David Gikawa, aged 38, was convicted of the murder of his former partner, Linah Keza, a former Miss Africa contestant, at her residence on King Edward Road in Leyton, east London, on the 31st of July.
The trial revealed that Gikawa stabbed Ms.
Keza, 29, with a knife that had its tip broken off, which was discovered at the scene.
The couple, who shared a young child, had recently separated before the incident took place.
Following the verdict, Gikawa was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years at the Old Bailey court.
The judge characterized the murder as a deliberate act driven by jealousy and revenge, rather than an impulsive loss of control.
It was noted that Ms.
Keza was stabbed three times, with the final wound inflicted in her back, indicating the use of significant force that caused the knife to break.
The court emphasized the tragic nature of the event occurring in front of their two-year-old daughter and pointed out deficiencies in the systems responsible for safeguarding Ms.
Keza, who had previously interacted with police and social services.
A neighbor who responded to the screams was publicly recognized for their bravery through a commendation.
