INVERNESS MAN GETS COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON DISABLED WOMAN
An Inverness woman with a learning disability was sexually assaulted by a stranger who followed his victim into her home.David Geddes, aged 38, who has psychological difficulties, entered the woman's residence and coerced her to undress, then touched her sexually.
He also expressed his desire to have sex with her before leaving the scene.
Geddes appeared in Inverness Sheriff Court where he pled guilty to a charge of sexual assault with intent to rape a woman incapable of consent due to a mental disorder.
The incident occurred on April 22, 2018, at an address in Inverness.
Geddes observed the victim walking in the street, followed her home, and gained access to her house.
He then directed her to undress, touching her private parts and breasts, and declared his wish to have sex with her.
The police became involved after the woman confided in a friend.
During the court hearing, his defence solicitor Rory Gowans highlighted Geddes's regret and remorse, and he apologized to the woman.
The court decided against a custodial sentence, ordering Geddes to complete 150 hours of unpaid work, participate in social work meetings for two years, and register as a sex offender for the same period.
Sheriff Gary Aitken warned Geddes that if he reoffended or caused worse consequences, he would likely face jail.
The sheriff also placed restrictions on his social media activities and possession of a mobile phone without permission, reminding Geddes that he should not conceal his internet activity.
The court acknowledged Geddes's personal difficulties and expressed a hope not to see him again in court, stressing that any further crimes could result in imprisonment.
