OFFENDER WITH 55 CONVICTIONS JAILED FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND STRANGULATION IN NEWCASTLE
Hotel guests were disturbed by loud screaming and banging as a violent man, identified as David Dixon, was involved in an assault on his partner in a Premier Inn in Newcastle.According to reports, Dixon, aged 47, was under the influence of crack cocaine during the incident on January 12 of this year.
Evidence includes an account from the victim describing how Dixon's hand was around her neck and he attempted to choke her.
Their hotel room was found to be untidy with blood marks on the sheets.
Witnesses heard Dixon shouting derogatory remarks and the victim was seen distressed on the corridor floor.
Furthermore, they were spotted on February 19 arguing on Pandon Bridge, where Dixon was observed grabbing and smashing her phone.
The woman was later taken to the RVI but declined to give a formal statement after the police arrived, though body-worn camera footage captured her account.
The court heard that Dixon then pushed the woman, causing her to fall, and she shouted for help as security officers intervened.
Dixon has a significant criminal history with 55 previous convictions, including for violence, racially aggravated harassment, and possession of a bladed article.
He pleaded guilty to charges of intentional strangulation, assault by beating, and property damage.
He was sentenced to 29 months in jail and received a five-year restraining order.
The court was told Dixon was under the influence of crack cocaine during the offence and claimed not to remember it.
His defense argued that his difficult childhood led him into drug use and a troubled life.
