2016: BOLTON MAN JAILED FOR 'REVENGE PORN' OFFENCE
A man from Deane has been sentenced to prison after committing an offence related to revenge pornography.David Derbyshire, who resides on Wigan Road, shared explicit material via Facebook and WhatsApp messaging.
On April 19, he pleaded guilty at Bolton Magistrates' Court to a charge of disclosing a sexual photograph or video without the person's consent, which occurred on March 28.
This offence was enacted through the Criminal Justice and Courts Act 2015 and marked one of the initial prosecutions in the area under this legislation.
Derbyshire received a sentence of 17 weeks in prison.
The magistrates described the offence as a significant breach of trust and 'despicable,' emphasizing the potentially severe and enduring effects on the victim.
A 12-month restraining order was granted, and Derbyshire was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £80.
