DALMUIR MAN JAILED FOR THREATENING POLICE WITH RAPE AND MURDER
A DALMUIR dad who threatened to rape a female cop and slit her daughter's throat has been jailed.David Creswell unleashed a tirade of abuse at officers at a house in Stewart Street last year.
The 46-year-old came to their attention after a female friend accused him of verbally abusing her.
The terrified woman ran form her home and sought shelter in a nearby newsagent before calling the police.
But when officers approached Creswell on the morning of November 17 he was in no mood to listen.
On Thursday last week prosecutor Claire Martin told Dumbarton Sheriff Court that Creswell had been drinking with two friends the night before his shameful behaviour.
She said: "Although they had all been consuming alcohol at that point they had no issues.
The other friend left the locus.
The two continued to drink and became intoxicated." The woman went to bed and was awoken by the accused in the morning who was shouting and calling her an offensive name.
When Creswell demanded to know if she was having sex with another man, the woman became distressed, stating that it had been her view their relationship was platonic.
She left the house and ran to a nearby newsagent and police were called.
A male and female officer attended the house and when they told Creswell they had reason to detain him things turned nasty.
Ms Martin told the court Creswell become increasingly threatening and aggressive and attempted to bite the male officer and was shouting: "Let me go.
I am going to go mental.
I am going to murder you." At this point the police attempted to gain control of matters by placing the irate man's back to the wall but Creswell would not give up and began swinging his head in an attempt to bite the officer.
The court heard that during the course of his violent struggle Cresswell shouted at the female officer: "I am going to rape you, I am going to kill you.
I will get your family and slit your wee girl's throat." At an earlier court appearance, Creswell admitted assaulting the female officer by pushing her and repeatedly striking her on the face and body as well as assaulting her colleague by pushing him and kicking him on the head and body twice.
The female officer suffered swelling, bruising and abrasions to the right forearm and elbow area as well as swelling and redness to her right cheek bone, while the male officer sustained bruising to his upper arm.
Defence agent Gail Campbell said her client accepted alcohol was no excuse for his behaviour and noted he was "visibly appalled" at what was being described.
She added: "He has not come to the attention of the courts for 17 years.
His comments to the police were appalling, particularly his comments to the female officer.
He is at a loss to explain his behaviour and is deeply embarrassed and sorry.
He understands there will be no second chances and does not wish to underplay it in anyway." Sentencing Creswell to five months, Sheriff Simon Pender said: "I have said on numerous occasions in this court police deserve the highest level of protection the courts can give them.
The message has to go out that behaviour of this sort will attract a severe penalty.
It is all too prevalent in this jurisdiction."
