DAVID COTTRELL'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN CARDIFF AND MERTHYR TYDFIL LEAD TO NINE-YEAR SENTENCE

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Cardiff and Merthyr Tydfil, David John Cottrell, a 35-year-old HGV driver and member of the Territorial Army, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for a series of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of multiple victims.

The court heard that Cottrell carried out a relentless and systematic campaign of abuse spanning over six years, targeting a woman and two young girls.

His actions included multiple instances of rape and sexual assault against the woman, with the abuse extending over a prolonged period, causing significant trauma and suffering.

In addition to his crimes against the woman, Cottrell was found to have sexually abused two young girls over a two-year period.

One of these victims was just 13 years old at the time of the abuse.

Cottrell pleaded guilty to the charges of rape of the woman and sexual abuse, as well as attempted rape of the 13-year-old girl.

However, he denied all other allegations brought against him during the proceedings.

The court's judgment reflected the severity of his crimes, and Cottrell was sentenced to a total of nine years in prison.
