DAVID ANGUS FROM KELTY CAUGHT IN SHOCKING ONLINE SEXUAL PREDATION CASE IN FIFE

In March 2017, a disturbing incident involving a local resident from Kelty, David Angus, came to light, revealing a serious case of online sexual misconduct targeting a minor. The case unfolded when Angus, then 25 years old and residing in Blairadam, Kelty, engaged in a series of inappropriate and illegal communications with a 14-year-old boy through online messaging platforms.

According to court records, Angus actively exchanged sexual messages with the young teenager, encouraging him to perform a sexual act while he watched via a web camera. The disturbing nature of the incident was uncovered when Angus’s wife, intending to use his tablet to play music, stumbled upon the chat exchanges and messages. Shocked and concerned, she discovered that her husband had been involved in explicit online conversations with a minor.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, she reported her findings to the authorities. The police launched an investigation, during which they spoke directly to the young boy involved. The victim confirmed that he was 14 years old at the time of the chat, and the messages indicated that he believed himself to be within the age range of 13 to 15.

Angus was subsequently charged and appeared before Dunfermline Sheriff Court to face the allegations. During the proceedings, his defense solicitor, Alexander Flett, stated that Angus’s family was supportive of him, and his wife was present in court to show her backing. The court was informed that Angus had previously admitted to the offence, which took place on May 14, 2015, at Blairadam Crescent, Kelty.

In delivering his judgment, Sheriff Charles MacNair emphasized the seriousness of the offence. He described the conduct as “very unpleasant and serious,” highlighting the significant age difference between Angus and the victim. The sheriff pointed out that Angus was aware he was communicating with a child but chose to continue the interaction regardless. He underscored that such behavior is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated, even if the victim did not suffer direct harm and was, at times, encouraging the offender.

Sheriff MacNair stressed the importance of protecting children from predatory adults, noting their naivety and immaturity make them particularly vulnerable. As part of the sentence, Angus was placed under a community payback order, which includes a supervision period of three years, 135 hours of unpaid work, and a four-month restriction of liberty order. Additionally, he will be required to register as a sex offender for five years, reflecting the gravity of his actions and the need for ongoing monitoring to prevent future offences.
