DAVID ALLEN OF WIGAN SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULTS
In a case that has shocked the community of Wigan, David Allen, a 50-year-old man from Derby House, Scholes, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 16 years after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses. The conviction follows a trial held at Liverpool Crown Court, where the jury deliberated on allegations spanning several years involving a young girl and a woman.
Allen had consistently denied all accusations brought against him.
The charges included the rape and sexual assault of a young girl over a period of seven years, as well as an incident involving a woman that occurred in November of the previous year.
Despite his denials, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him on all counts.
The prosecution, led by Nicola Daley, detailed the events of November 3 last year, when the female victim visited Allen’s residence.
According to her testimony, they engaged in conversation and consumed alcohol together.
During this visit, Allen provided her with “poppers,” a substance often associated with recreational drug use.
Subsequently, he began to sexually molest her, an act that was corroborated by her account and evidence presented during the trial.
Judge Elizabeth Nicholls, presiding over the case, sentenced Allen to 16 years in prison and ordered him to register as a sex offender for life.
In her remarks, she emphasized the profound impact of his actions on his victims.
She described how Allen’s abuse had robbed his young victim of her childhood and innocence, highlighting her dignity as she gave evidence in court.
The court also heard that Allen has no previous convictions related to similar offenses.
Nevertheless, he was convicted of one charge involving the woman victim and 22 charges related to the young girl, which included rape, sexual assaults, and inciting her to engage in sexual activity.
It was revealed during the proceedings that the offenses against the girl, which began when she was just nine years old, only came to light last year after she confided in her boyfriend while intoxicated.
This disclosure prompted police intervention, leading to Allen’s arrest and subsequent conviction.
As part of his sentence, Allen was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities following his release from prison.
The case has left a lasting impact on the community of Wigan, highlighting the importance of vigilance and the protection of vulnerable individuals from such heinous crimes.
