Darren Youel, a 54-year-old resident of Barnsley, was found guilty of the murder of his wife Julie.
The incident occurred at their home on Rotherham Road in Monk Bretton on 21 May, when Youel stabbed Julie during an assault.
Following the attack, he contacted emergency services and confessed to both stabbing his wife and himself.
Youel pleaded guilty to the charge of murder and was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment at Sheffield Crown Court, with a minimum term of 12 and a half years before eligibility for parole.
Julie, aged 53, suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead despite paramedics' efforts.
The court noted that Youel also had multiple self-inflicted stab wounds and took responsibility for his actions.
