NEWCASTLE THUG IMPRISONED AFTER ATTACK ON EX-PARTNER WHILE DRUNK
A West Denton thug climbed through a window to attack his former partner of 11 years.Darren Telfer, of Dayshield, pleaded guilty to assault by beating at Newcastle Magistrates' Court this week after punching the mother of his children.
The court heard that on March 2, his ex-partner and mother of his four children called him at 11.41am to ask if he was coming home.
When she heard he was intoxicated, she told him to stay at his father's house.
She called back at 5.50pm in the evening to ask when he would return, and Telfer responded: "When I come back I will smash your f***ing face in".
The victim then locked the doors and windows and told the children not to answer the door to their dad.
When Telfer arrived home, he told one of the children if he opened the window he would get a game.
Once the window was opened, the 35-year-old started to climb through, and his ex-partner tried to close the window.
Telfer then launched himself through the window and pushed her, causing her to fall backwards onto the sofa.
She called the police, as Telfer punched her in the ribs whilst shouting "you f***ing b****".
The assault caused reddening and swelling to his victim's cheek and soreness to her abdomen.
Telfer's defence said that his ex-partner did not support the prosecution and had retracted her statement on March 2.
They said: "He has taken the decision to accept responsibility and is ashamed of his behaviour, which proves good character." The defence added that Telfer had gone from being a primary carer for two of his four children to not seeing any of them for five months.
Magistrates lifted Telfer's existing bail conditions which stipulate that he is not to contact the complainant.
He is now on unconditional bail until his next hearing on October 3.
