DARREN JONES FROM KENNINGTON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF UNDERAGE GIRL IN KENT
In August 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving Darren Jones, a married man from Kennington, who was convicted of engaging in a prolonged period of sexual misconduct with a teenage girl.The case was heard at Canterbury Crown Court, where it was revealed that Jones, aged 40, had been grooming and having sexual relations with the underage girl over a span of approximately 11 months.
Jones, a lorry driver by profession, had been involved in a clandestine relationship with the teenager, which he maintained behind his wife’s back.
The court heard that the abuse was not only ongoing but also carried out in a manner that involved deception and manipulation.
On one occasion, Jones’ wife nearly caught him in the act of engaging the girl in sexual intercourse, but the couple managed to cover their tracks by pretending they were involved in a different activity.
The court was informed that the girl and Jones had a sexual relationship that included regular sexual encounters.
The abuse only came to light years later when the teenager decided to report the incidents to the police.
She provided detailed accounts of their relationship, including the fact that Jones had sent her explicit messages via WhatsApp, which he later urged her to delete.
Additionally, she disclosed that Jones had recorded their sexual encounters on his mobile phone, further complicating the case.
Prosecutor Matthew Bolt stated that Jones was initially arrested and denied the allegations.
However, on the day he was scheduled to stand trial, Jones changed his plea and admitted to four child sex offences.
The court proceedings were attended by Jones’ wife and family members, who sat in the public gallery as the disturbing details of the abuse were revealed.
Following the evidence presented, Darren Jones was sentenced to four years in prison for his crimes.
The case highlights the serious nature of grooming and sexual abuse of minors, and the importance of vigilance and reporting such misconduct to authorities.
