OFFENDER DARREN BATES JAILED FOR BRUTAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ASSAULT
Darren Bates, aged 42, was sentenced to 27 months in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges related to his violent and abusive behavior towards his partner.
The court heard that Bates had threatened and assaulted the woman during their 10 to 11 week relationship.
He stabbed her with a knife and a syringe, pinned her down to suffocate her with a plastic bag, and punched her in the face causing bleeding.
Despite her injuries and fears, she initially did not leave him due to lack of options but later sought refuge and ended the relationship.
Bates continued to harass her, sending letters and cards in an attempt to maintain contact.
The judge emphasized that if Bates behaved similarly in the future, he would face longer sentences.
He was also banned from contacting the woman again with an indefinite restraining order.
Bates, who has previous convictions for assault on police and harassment, was remanded in custody and will serve his time before returning to South Wales.
