DANIEL SHARRATT-DYE SENTENCED IN INVERNESS FOR BRUTAL DOMESTIC ABUSE
A 33-year-old man named Daniel Sharratt-Dye has been handed a prison sentence of 34 months following a series of severe domestic abuse incidents in Inverness. The Inverness Sheriff Court heard detailed accounts of his prolonged and violent behavior spanning over a decade, from 2008 to 2021, involving five women as victims.During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Sharratt-Dye had inflicted physical harm on four of these women, while one victim was left with the terrifying belief that he intended to kill her. Witnesses and evidence painted a disturbing picture of a man described as a "master manipulator" and a "dormant volcano," whose unpredictable bursts of anger often resulted in brutal assaults. His violent acts included choking three women by applying pressure to their necks during heated altercations, a tactic that could have had fatal consequences.
In addition to choking, Sharratt-Dye was found to have thrown various objects at his victims, such as plates, a glass, and an iPad, all of which caused injuries significant enough to require medical attention at hospitals. Specific incidents detailed in court included ripping a necklace from one woman’s neck, pinning another onto a bed before headbutting her, and subjecting victims to verbal abuse, including name-calling and threats of violence. One woman recounted her fear, stating she felt "absolutely convinced that he would come back and kill her," highlighting the enduring psychological trauma inflicted by his actions.
Evidence presented in court also revealed that Sharratt-Dye had a prior conviction for domestic assault in 2010, indicating a pattern of violent behavior. His solicitor spoke on his behalf, emphasizing his remorse and his efforts to seek counseling to address his issues. Despite these efforts, the court recognized the profound psychological damage caused by his conduct.
In sentencing, the sheriff emphasized the seriousness of the crimes and the lasting impact on the victims. Sharratt-Dye was sentenced to serve 34 months in prison and was also issued a non-harassment order that will remain in effect for seven years, aiming to protect the victims from further contact or intimidation.
