BARNSLEY MAN SENTENCED FOR KNIFE ASSAULT ON EX
A woman feared for her life when her ex, Daniel Greenwood, broke into her Barnsley home at 4am on January 21 and waved a knife at her, slashing her hand.Greenwood, 29, had previously been banned from contacting his former girlfriend after a period of harassment following their breakup in December 2019.
Despite the non-molestation order, he ignored it and showed up at her house early in the morning.
Prosecutor Fatima Zafar explained that the woman was at home sleeping and had gone to the kitchen for a drink of water when she heard footsteps behind her.
She turned around to see Greenwood standing there, resulting in her panicking.
Greenwood then grabbed his ex by the arms and reached for a kitchen knife.
She described feeling as though she was about to be killed and instinctively reached for the knife, at which point Greenwood waved it in a slashing motion and cut her hand near the wrist, causing bleeding.
She shouted at Greenwood to leave, and he was subsequently arrested by police.
Greenwood initially lied, claiming he had grabbed the knife from her as she tried to stab him and later disposed of it in a bush, where it was found by officers.
He admitted to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, breach of a non-molestation order, and possession of a blade or pointed article, receiving a sentence of 14 months in prison.
