DANIEL COTHAM BARKING AND ILFORD PERVERT COP AVOIDS JAIL SENTENCE
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Barking and Ilford, Daniel Cotham, a 25-year-old community support officer, was found guilty of serious sexual misconduct involving a minor but was ultimately spared imprisonment. Cotham, who was employed at Ilford police station and also served as a Scout master, engaged in disturbing online conversations where he boasted about having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy.According to court records, Cotham used an internet chat site to share explicit details of his relationship with the underage boy. He also exchanged explicit photographs with another man, further implicating him in the case. The offences, which spanned from February 2005 to October 2006, involved inciting the other man to send indecent images of children, a crime that has garnered significant public concern.
Following his conviction, Cotham was subjected to a series of legal penalties. He was sentenced to a three-year community supervision order and was mandated to attend a rehabilitation course specifically designed for sex offenders. The court's decision reflects a focus on rehabilitation, but also includes strict conditions to prevent further harm.
As part of his sentencing, Cotham, who has since been dismissed from the Metropolitan Police, is required to register his computer with the police authorities. He is also prohibited from residing or working with anyone under the age of 15 and is barred from using internet chat rooms to prevent any future misconduct. Additionally, a judge at Snaresbrook Crown Court ordered him to be placed on the sex offenders register for a period of five years.
These measures aim to monitor Cotham’s activities closely and protect the community from potential risks. The case has raised questions about the oversight of individuals in positions of trust and the importance of safeguarding minors from exploitation and abuse.
