BARKING TEACHER BANNED FOR INAPPROPRIATE RELATIONSHIP WITH PUPIL
A teacher has been banned from the teaching profession after being found to have engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a pupil at Greatfields School in Barking. The teacher, Adam Beg, 27, resigned from his role as a cover supervisor following allegations that he had inappropriate conversations with the girl over a period of six months. The incident came to light when the girl’s mother noticed her daughter becoming withdrawn, prompting her to reveal that Mr Beg had made comments that made her feel uncomfortable. According to the report, Mr Beg called the girl into his classroom alone and disclosed personal details, such as that he cheats on his girlfriend and discussed his sexual preferences. He would also make inappropriate comments, such as that he prefers not to use a condom. The girl tried to create distance by mentioning a boy she liked, which angered Mr Beg, and he invited her for a hug on another occasion. Mr Beg denied these allegations, but the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) panel found them credible, concluding that his account was less believable than hers. The panel stated that Mr Beg failed to maintain proper professional boundaries and that his actions indicated an inappropriate relationship with a minor, although not sexual in nature. As a result, the decision maker, Marc Cavey, imposed an indefinite ban from teaching on Mr Beg, with a review in two years. The school issued a statement condemning Mr Beg’s conduct, highlighting that he breached the Teacher Code of Conduct and that full vetting was conducted before his employment. The school also confirmed that an internal disciplinary investigation and a report to the TRA led to his dismissal for gross misconduct, and they expressed full support for the panel’s findings.
