DANIEL CORDINGLEY FROM ST ANN'S JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN NOTTINGHAM
In a case that has shocked the local community, Daniel Cordingley, a resident of St Ann’s, was sentenced to a substantial prison term after being found guilty of engaging in sexual activities with a 15-year-old girl. The incident, which took place in Nottingham, was brought to light during a court hearing at Nottingham Crown Court, revealing disturbing details about the offender’s actions and the extent of his misconduct.According to court reports, Cordingley, aged 26, took advantage of the girl, whom he knew personally, during a particularly vulnerable period in her life. The court heard that he had unprotected sex with her on four or five separate occasions in 2005. The girl, who was only 15 at the time, was described as having experienced a troubled childhood, which led her to self-harm. Witnesses and prosecutors emphasized that her vulnerability was clear to anyone familiar with her circumstances, yet Cordingley exploited her trust for his own gratification.
Prosecutor Stuart Rafferty detailed the case, stating that the girl confided in her mother about the abuse in August of the previous year. This revelation prompted police investigations, which uncovered a disturbing collection of digital material on Cordingley’s computer. When authorities examined his device, they discovered a staggering total of 1,086 indecent images of children, including 40 classified at the most severe level, depicting children as young as two years old. The images were linked to searches containing terms like “erotic” and “two-year-olds,” raising questions about his intentions and the nature of his online activity.
Further complicating the case was Cordingley’s own admission of having Asperger’s syndrome. Following his disclosure of sexual fantasies involving children, he sought help at a local centre, expressing concerns about his thoughts. During this visit, he also stated that he believed the age of consent should be lowered to 14. Subsequently, he handed himself over to the police, leading to his arrest and subsequent charges.
In court, Cordingley pleaded guilty to charges of sexual activity with a minor and possession of indecent images of children. Judge Dudley Bennett, presiding over the case, sentenced him to three years and three months in prison. The judge emphasized the breach of trust involved in the case, highlighting the vulnerability of the victim and the exploitation by Cordingley. He also condemned the possession of the images, stating, “If it’s not for people like you prepared to view it, these children would not be exploited and treated in the way that they have been.”
Additionally, the judge imposed strict conditions on Cordingley’s future, including a lifelong ban from working with children and a requirement to register as a sex offender. In mitigation, defense counsel Adrian Reynolds pointed to Cordingley’s troubled past, suggesting that his own history had influenced his actions. Nonetheless, the court made it clear that such behavior would not be tolerated, and the community’s safety remains a priority.
