PETERBOROUGH MAN JAILED FOR RAPING SLEEPING WOMAN
A man named Daniel Barbosa, originating from Orton Goldhay in Peterborough, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for raping a woman while she was asleep. The assault took place in July 2022, during which Barbosa forcibly engaged in sexual activity without the victim's consent. Despite her repeatedly telling him to stop as she woke, he continued with the attack, police reported. Barbosa, aged 27 and from Hinchcliffe, was convicted of two counts of rape and voyeurism following a trial in April. He has also been ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was barred from working with children and vulnerable adults. The victim came forward a month later and discovered that Barbosa had previously filmed her in an "intimate state" five months prior to the assault, without her knowledge. Det Con Katie Housham praised the victim's bravery for exposing Barbosa's predatory behavior, emphasizing that "Barbosa forced himself on a woman who was asleep and could not give consent." The police reiterated the importance of consent with the statement, "This sentencing is a reminder that no means no, and we will always strive to bring offenders before the courts. We encourage anyone who suspects they are a victim of sexual offenses to contact us."
