OFFENDER DAANISH ZAHID JAILED FOR LYING IN KRISS DONALD MURDER CASE
One of the men imprisoned for life for the murder of Glasgow teenager Kriss Donald has received an additional prison sentence for lying to help free an accomplice.
Daanish Zahid, aged 31, provided false testimony during Imran Shahid's 2011 appeal against his conviction for the racially-motivated murder of the 15-year-old in 2004.
The judges dismissed Shahid's appeal after concluding Zahid had lied.
Zahid was subsequently sentenced to an extra six years after admitting to attempting to obstruct justice.
He is already serving a minimum of 17 years after being found guilty of abducting and killing Kriss Donald.
The additional sentence will start after his minimum term, meaning he might not be released until 2027.
Zahid's actions were part of a larger gang that included Imran Shahid, his brother Zeeshan Shahid, and Faisal Mushtaq, all of whom were also jailed for life in 2006.
Shahid, considered the gang leader, was ordered to serve at least 25 years, while Zeeshan Shahid received at least 23 years, and Mushtaq at least 22 years.
Shahid and Mushtaq abandoned plans to appeal their sentences in 2009.
Despite Zahid's initial claims of innocence and accusations of another gang being responsible, a subsequent investigation revealed Zahid's lies, leading to his re-imprisonment.
During the court proceedings, Kriss Donald's mother, Angela, expressed her anger, shouting 'Hope you die in jail'.
