CURTIS HALE FROM NEWPORT ESCAPES JAIL DESPITE POSSESSING CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
Curtis Hale, a 27-year-old resident of Newport, specifically from Lliswerry Park Drive, narrowly avoided serving time behind bars after being handed a 12-month prison sentence that was suspended for two years.This decision came despite the fact that Hale was found to have accessed and stored a disturbing collection of 658 indecent images and videos depicting children.
His case was heard at Cardiff Crown Court on January 17, where it was revealed that a significant portion of the material—456 images—were classified as Category A, which is considered the most severe level of such content.
Among these was a distressing video showing a man engaging in sexual activity with a girl estimated to be around 10 years old.
The court also learned that some of the images discovered on Hale’s devices depicted children as young as six to twelve months old, highlighting the disturbing nature of his collection.
In addition to the child exploitation material, the court was informed that Hale possessed four extreme pornographic images that depicted the rape of adult women, further emphasizing the severity of his offenses.
Despite the gravity of these crimes, Recorder John Philpotts sentenced Hale to a prison term that was suspended, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed further offenses within the two-year period.
Furthermore, the court ordered Hale to pay various surcharges and costs amounting to £150.
He was also mandated to attend rehabilitation courses aimed at addressing his behavior.
As part of his sentence, Hale will be registered on the sexual offenders' register for a period of ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
