'IMMATURE' YORKSHIRE THUG CHOKES GIRLFRIEND AGAINST WALL IN 'JEALOUS TIRADE'
A court heard that Curtis Dryden, aged 23, violently assaulted his girlfriend by grabbing her by the neck and shoving her against a wall during a jealous episode at a property in Marton, Middlesbrough.
Described by the court as an immature individual, Dryden’s violent conduct took place in the early hours of September 24, 2023, at a residence where he had been waiting for his partner of six months.
The victim, who had just returned from drinking with friends, was confronted by Dryden, who was under the influence of intoxicants, according to the prosecution.
They explained: "He accused her of cheating and questioned who had dropped her off and where she had been.
In the kitchen, he started pushing and shoving her." The court revealed that Dryden grabbed her neck, pressing her against the wall with his right hand, and was shouting aggressively.
The woman was frightened by his behavior.
During the incident, Dryden also punched a wall and continued to push her.
She reported head pain and noted that her phone was broken into two pieces the next day, as per reports from Teesside Live.
The assault left her with bruising and ongoing sleep difficulties.
Admitting to charges of actual bodily harm and criminal damage, Dryden’s defense lawyer, Gary Wood, highlighted that his client had no previous convictions.
The judge, Recorder Tony Hawks, sentenced him to 12 months in prison, suspended for 18 months.
The judge stated, "Domestic violence remains a significant problem.
You are an immature young man, only 23, and this was a distressing and unpleasant assault." Dryden, living on Thetford Avenue, was also ordered to undertake 10 rehabilitation days, pay a victim surcharge, and was served a five-year restraining order to prevent any contact with the victim.
