SCOTS MAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER SHARING REVENGE PORN
A Scots man named Craig Starkey was convicted for uploading revenge porn to social media.
The incident occurred on August 4, 2024, when Starkey posted a video showing a woman in an intimate situation without her consent.
The footage was accessible to third parties, causing significant distress, fear, and alarm to the woman involved.
Despite being found guilty of abusive behaviour and sexual harm on July 16 at Stranraer Sheriff Court, Starkey was not sentenced to jail.
Instead, the sheriff imposed a Community Payback Order with supervision for 12 months and ordered him to complete 120 hours of unpaid work within six months.
A further review is scheduled for October 8, where Starkey must appear at the same court.
The Scottish Government highlighted the severity of intimate image abuse, also known as revenge porn, emphasizing that victims should seek help from police and support services.
A spokesperson underlined that sharing intimate images without consent is a form of abuse, and victims are not to blame.
