BARROW: CRAIG RAEBURN, 62, JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
A MAN has been jailed for nearly 15 years after he was found guilty of five child sex offences that occurred in Barrow 10 year ago.
Craig Raeburn, aged 61, of no fixed address, was sentenced to 14 years in prison at Preston Crown Court today (April 9).
It comes after a jury found Mr Raeburn guilty following a trial in January.
The offences Mr Raeburn was charged with involved one victim and occurred between 2014 and 2016 in Barrow.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Ash Elliot, said: “The victim in this case has been incredibly brave in coming forward and reporting these traumatic events and I hope this result can provide some closure.” Mr Raeburn is now subject to a 20 year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, he has been placed on the sex offenders register for life, and was handed an ‘indefinite restraining order against the victim’.
Continuing to talk about the case, DC Elliot said: “Raeburn is a predator and was fully aware of the victim’s age when he committed the offences.
Despite the case being reported some time after it took place, we hope the result achieved at court shows that it is never too late to report instances of sexual abuse.
Cumbria Police will investigate all reports of sexual abuse and do everything in our power to hold offenders accountable for their actions.”
