RHYL MAN JAILED AGAIN FOR LEAVING SEXUALLY EXPLICIT NOTE FOR SCHOOLGIRL
A man from Rhyl who was previously sentenced to 15 months in prison in February for engaging in sexual communication with a minor has received an additional jail term.Craig McDermid, aged 56 and residing on John Street, was sentenced last week at Mold Magistrates Court to five extra days behind bars for not paying a £123 fine.
This fine had remained unpaid since July 2018, and McDermid was sentenced in his absence.
In the earlier case, he admitted to communicating sexually with a child, and the initial sentence was issued by Mold Crown Court after the offence occurred in May 2024 at a bus stop in Flintshire.
The court heard that McDermid left a sexually explicit note for a schoolgirl, which included the phrase: "lift your skirt up." The girl had noticed a red car parked nearby at previous times, suspecting that the driver might have been filming her.
On the day of the incident, she discovered the note on the ground.
Police traced the vehicle to McDermid, who was subsequently arrested, with CCTV footage indicating him dropping the note off.
The girl reported feeling "anxious and confused," while her father voiced feeling "extreme pure anger" about the incident.
The offence was reported in May 2024, leading to McDermid’s arrest based on CCTV evidence.
The court proceedings included a brief additional jail term for McDermid for unpaid fines.
