CRAIG IONS FROM DEWSBURY AND HUNTINGTON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN YORK

In August 2012, Craig Ions, aged 24, was sentenced to serve 18 months in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting a young girl aged just 12 in York. The incident took place at a residence in Huntington during a social gathering, where Ions was accused of committing the assault in the living room of the property.

Craig Ions, who resides on Smith Walk in Dewsbury, faced charges related to the assault that occurred in August 2011. Despite denying the allegations, Ions was found guilty by a jury following a trial held at Leeds Crown Court in July of that year. The court proceedings revealed the disturbing nature of the crime, which shocked the local community and drew significant media attention.

The sentencing was carried out at Leeds Crown Court, where the judge imposed an 18-month prison term on Ions. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, a measure designed to monitor his activities and prevent further harm.

Detective Constable Tracey Lumb, a representative of North Yorkshire Police’s protecting vulnerable persons unit, expressed her support for the verdict and praised the bravery of the young victim. She stated, “Craig Ions not only subjected his victim to a disgusting sexual assault but also put her through the anguish of a crown court trial by not admitting his guilt. Fortunately, a jury found him guilty and the victim has the justice that she deserves for being brave enough to tell someone what had happened to her.”

She further added, “Ions’ sentence means he now has plenty of time to reflect on his vile behaviour and how it has impacted on an innocent young girl. I hope the victim and her family can now put this behind them and get on with their lives knowing that Ions is in prison where he belongs.”
