PORT TALBOT MAN CRAIG HARRIS SENTENCED AFTER VIOLENT ATTACK ON PREGNANT PARTNER
Craig Harris, a man from Port Talbot, was involved in a disturbing and violent incident that has shocked the local community and prompted a serious legal response. According to court reports, Harris subjected his pregnant partner to a terrifying assault, during which he forcibly pressed a screwdriver into her stomach and issued threats to kill both her and her unborn child. This incident highlights a troubling pattern of abusive behavior that Harris has exhibited over the years.Details of the court proceedings at Swansea Crown Court reveal that the incident took place on May 9 in Port Talbot town centre. On that day, Harris and his partner, who was seven months pregnant at the time, met in the bustling area. The victim declined Harris’s invitation to accompany him back to her residence. Instead, she chose to go to a nearby McDonald's, where Harris waited outside for approximately an hour. Afterward, she decided to walk home, with Harris following her closely behind.
When she finally reached her house and reopened the door, Harris approached her and asked to use the toilet. Once inside her home, the situation escalated rapidly. Harris grabbed her coat collar, restraining her physically, and pushed her against the wall. In a terrifying display of violence, he then produced a screwdriver, pressing it against her neck and stomach. During this ordeal, he issued threats to kill her and her unborn baby, creating a scene of intense fear and danger.
The court also learned that Harris has a long-standing criminal record, comprising 21 convictions for a total of 35 offenses. His past crimes include assault, harassment, breaching restraining orders, and other violent acts committed against previous partners. Harris pleaded guilty to charges of assault and making threats of murder, which led to his sentencing.
In response, the judge sentenced Harris to 32 months in prison. The sentence was reduced by 20% to account for his guilty pleas. The judge emphasized that the only effective way to protect women from Harris was to imprison him for as long as possible. Additionally, Harris was ordered to adhere to a restraining order that bans him from contacting his victim for a period of seven years, aiming to prevent any further harm or intimidation.
This case underscores the ongoing issues of domestic violence and the importance of legal measures to protect victims from repeat offenders like Craig Harris, whose history of violence has now resulted in a significant custodial sentence.
