POLICE SURPRISE AS CHILD PORN TEACHER IS LET OFF AFTER CHARGES DROPPED
A teacher named Craig Hamilton, aged 24, who was employed at Edinburgh Academy, has been involved in a child pornography case.Police discovered 50 obscene photographs of young boys between the ages of eight and 12 on his computer, which had been downloaded from websites known to be used by paedophiles.
Hamilton was dismissed from his teaching position within 30 minutes of the discovery.
Although he admitted that the images were on his computer, he denied downloading them.
The case was taken to Edinburgh Sheriff Court last year, and Hamilton was granted bail.
However, recently, the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service confirmed that the charges had been dropped, without providing a specific reason.
Despite the evidence, the case did not proceed to trial, and Hamilton will not face prosecution for child porn offences.
Police sources expressed their surprise at this outcome, noting that the evidence was strong and that the dropping of charges means he can still teach anywhere in Britain.
Hamilton had only been working at the school for three months before the police seized his computer.
He had attempted to wipe his hard drive clean.
Following the incident, he was sacked and subsequently moved to London.
The incident raises concerns about the handling of such cases, given the evidence and the response from authorities.
