WREXHAM MAN JAILED FOR CAMPAIGN OF ABUSE AGAINST EX-PARTNER
Craig Griffiths, a 32-year-old man from Colliery Road in Wrexham, has been sentenced for a campaign of physical and emotional abuse against his ex-partner.He pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including controlling and coercive behaviour, intentional strangulation, assault by beating, and stalking.
The abuse was reported to have occurred over a period of time, with incidents starting in August 2024 when Griffiths attended his ex-partner Laura Mayers' home, demanded entry, and behaved aggressively.
During that event, he threatened her with a knife and prevented her from calling police.
The victim described feeling like she was "being attacked every weekend" and often being grabbed or slapped, with violence worsening under the influence of alcohol.
Griffiths' controlling behaviour included going through her phone, deleting contacts, and making derogatory comments, as well as dictating her clothing choices and stopping her from attending the gym.
In November 2024, after an argument about her Facebook account, Griffiths assaulted Ms Mayers by slapping her and choking her until she struggled to breathe, prompting police intervention.
Despite being arrested and released with conditions, Griffiths continued to threaten her, including calls and threats to burn her house down.
In December, he sent threatening messages and sent a photo of them together through her Amazon Dot.
The victim now finds it difficult to trust people, according to her statement.
Griffiths has 10 previous convictions for 29 offences, including domestic violence against a different partner.
He has been in custody since March and has accepted responsibility for his actions.
The court sentenced him to two years and ten months of imprisonment and imposed a 10-year restraining order.
The police officer involved publicly stated that this case sends a clear message that violence against women and girls will not be tolerated.
