ABINGDON PAEDOPHILE CRAIG GREALY JAILED FOR REPEATED BREACHES OF SEXUAL HARM PREVENTION ORDER
In a case that has raised serious concerns about ongoing risks posed by a convicted paedophile, Craig Grealy, aged 42, from Abingdon, has been sentenced to prison after repeatedly violating a court-imposed order designed to protect children from harm.Grealy’s violations came to light following police visits to his residence in November and December of the previous year.
During these visits, officers discovered him in possession of children’s underwear, which was deemed highly inappropriate given his criminal history.
Despite being arrested and released on bail, Grealy’s breaches did not cease.
In May of this year, police found him again with soiled children’s clothing, including pyjamas, indicating a disturbing pattern of behaviour.
The court’s concern was compounded by the fact that Grealy was subject to a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) issued in 2002 after he was convicted of indecently assaulting a girl under the age of 14.
This order explicitly prohibited him from possessing any children’s clothing, a restriction he blatantly disregarded.
During the sentencing hearing at Oxford Crown Court on Friday, June 23, Recorder Samantha Presland addressed the court, stating, “There’s no two ways about it; these are persistent breaches of the sexual harm prevention order.
There are worrying concerns.” She highlighted that there had been a request to remove the clause from the SHPO that barred Grealy from having children’s clothing, but police reports indicated that some of the items found were soiled, suggesting either that Grealy was soiling them himself or obtaining items previously used and soiled by children.
Judge Presland expressed particular concern over the possibility that Grealy might have had contact with young people, especially if the soiled clothing was obtained from other sources.
She noted that the police had documented these breaches and that the repeated violations demonstrated a clear disregard for the restrictions placed upon him.
Furthermore, the probation service’s pre-sentence report revealed that they were unable to offer Grealy any community support due to his ongoing breaches and his own refusal to cooperate with assistance programs.
The judge emphasized that her hands were tied in terms of alternative sentencing options, leading to her decision to impose an immediate custodial sentence.
Addressing Grealy directly, who appeared via video link from HMP Bullingdon, the judge stated, “It is clear the police told you, you are not allowed to have this [underwear]; yet you did it again, then you did it again.
It seems to me with probation saying they cannot work with you, as much as I am aware you have significant health difficulties and I know you won’t understand a lot of what I am saying, I need you to understand you are considered to be a risk, that this is risky behaviour and you have been told not to have these items.
But you persistently go out and get them, and it is not clear whether they are being bought new or somehow obtained.” Grealy, of Helens Mews, Abingdon, pleaded guilty at earlier court hearings to three counts of breaching his sexual harm prevention order.
His repeated violations underscore the ongoing danger he poses, prompting the court to take decisive action to protect the community from further harm.
