CONVICTED SEX OFFENDER SENTENCE TO JAIL FOR SENDING EXPLICIT IMAGES OF HIMSELF TO A ‘12 YEAR OLD CHILD’
UPDATE 20/01/2026: A convicted sex offender sent a video of himself engaging in a sexual act to who he believed was a 12-year-old girl but was in fact an undercover police officer. He later told the decoy to delete the video and asked her for naked images of herself.
Craig Evans, 47, of Llanelli, began speaking with the decoy on the Kik messenger app in October last year, where the police officer had set up a fake account.
The decoy immediately told the defendant she was just 12 years old but he asked her if she had a boyfriend and if she had done "naked stuff".
When the decoy sent a "selfie" style photograph, he responded: "Stunning, how about naked?" The defendant went on to send photographs of himself to the decoy and photographs of his dog.
He later told her he was "sitting on the bed naked and watching pornography".
Evans asked the decoy if she had "seen a penis before" and then sent a video of himself masturbating and asked her to delete the video.
The police attended the defendant's home on October 31, and upon entering the house, he asked why they were there and was subsequently arrested.
During his police interview, Evans claimed he did not believe the decoy was a real girl due to the age verifications on the Kik app and thought he was "role playing".
He also said he believed it was a decoy or vigilante group and asked questions to "catch them out".
Evans, of Dolau Fawr, later pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and attempting to cause a child under 13 to watch or look at an image of sexual activity.
Sentencing, Judge Paul Hobson described his thinking as "warped" in relation to his sexual behaviour.
Evans was sentenced to 70 weeks in prison and was made subject to sex offender notification requirements and a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years.
———————————————————————- A LLANELLI man has been sentenced at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to two separate offences — sending explicit images to cause distress and possessing an illegal weapon.
Craig Evans, aged 46, of Dolau Fawr, Llanelli, appeared before District Judge J Layton on Wednesday (May 8), where he was sentenced for two offences committed on the same day earlier this year.
The court heard that on March 3, 2025, Evans intentionally sent a photograph and film of his genitals to a woman, for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification, while being reckless as to whether she would be caused alarm, distress, or humiliation.
The offence was contrary to section 66A of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
On the same day, police also discovered a prohibited weapon at Evans’ home address — a gravity locking baton — an item banned under section 141(1A) of the Criminal Justice Act 1988.
Evans indicated a guilty plea to both charges on March 27, 2025, but failed to attend court that day, prompting the issue of a warrant for his arrest without bail.
The prosecution was led by Ann Griffiths for CPS Wales (South West), based at Swansea Central Police Station.
Evans was finally brought before the court on May 8 for sentencing.
